Sleep near the Haram
How to choose a room in Makkah, and every hotel and apartment that has listed itself with Go Labbayk.
Makkah hotels are priced by one thing above all: how far you have to walk to Masjid al-Haram. A room on the Ajyad or Ibrahim Khalil streets ringing the Haram can cost several times the same room in Aziziyah, twenty minutes out by shuttle. Neither is wrong. It depends on who is walking, how many times a day, and in what heat.
Before you book
Walking distance is the whole price
The closest hotels sit on the Ajyad, Ibrahim Khalil and Misfalah streets that ring the Haram — five to fifteen minutes on foot. Further out, Aziziyah and Kudai are cheaper and run shuttles. If anyone in your group is elderly or unwell, pay for the metres.
Your stay has to be traceable
Umrah is issued through Nusuk, and where you are staying is part of what gets checked. Book somewhere that will give you written confirmation in the name on your passport, and keep it on your phone. A verbal agreement at the door is not a booking.
Agree what the rate covers before you arrive
Ask three things in writing: how many people the rate is for, whether breakfast and the shuttle are included, and what happens if you arrive early or leave late. Ramadan rates, and the last ten nights especially, are not the rates you were quoted in an ordinary month.
